Patrick McLinden is a Bay Area Human Resource Executive located in San Carlos, CA. He possesses a deep passion for the new and exciting, and he fell in love with the ability to kickstart businesses and people in the right direction through strategic HR initiatives. Patrick holds a Master’s of Science in Psychology from Northern Illinois University, an M.S. in Personnel and Human Resource Development from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
For Patrick, his desire to shape brand culture through strategic HR initiatives is fueled by his fascination with psychology. His career is built off a solid foundation of education, and his desire to understand the unique needs of the people he encounters directly shines through in his professional career. One thing is for sure, Patrick doesn’t like people feeling too comfortable. He thrives on shaking things up and getting a business headed in a more efficient and edifying direction.
Currently, Patrick McLinden is the Senior Director of Strategic HR Business Initiatives at VMware – a world leader in cloud infrastructure and digital workspace technology. His career is nothing short of interesting, with positions held at major companies such as Fitbit, where he served as the Sr. Director of Learning and Development helping to kickstart the company back in the right direction. He also worked at Deloitte Consulting, a Big 5 consulting company where he worked with C-Level Executives across a variety of industries. While there, he helped develop Deloitte’s talent through selection, recruitment, and mentoring. He also led teams in the development and implementation of complex talent management.
Amongst Patrick’s decorated education and career experience, he still finds time for activities of leisure.
Patrick’s attention to detail, care for the people around him, and desire to simply do all things well have recently led him to spend more time on one of his favorite hobbies – home landscaping. He is a lover of the intricacies of gardening and finds great joy spending time outside in the beautiful Bay Area he calls home. For Patrick, cultivating a healthy and vibrant garden is something akin to that of cultivating a healthy and vibrant company culture. Just as successful HR initiatives take strategic planning and attention to detail, so do the needs of home landscaping and gardening require a similar mindset and focus.
In the future, Patrick plans on pursuing this hobby more, seeking to share his insight and skill with fellow nature lovers. What was once a hobby spurred on by his awareness for busy professionals to find times of rest away from a busy office space, Patrick’s knowledge of home landscaping is spreading far beyond the Bay Area.
Patrick is also a loving husband and dedicated father to two daughters who follow in his footsteps with their passion and success in education. In spite of all of his business endeavors, it is time with his family that he cites as his greatest joy and biggest adventure.
